Mary Kom has made a name for herself winning medals for India in boxing. Omung Kumar has made a script out of it and starred Priyanka Chopra to play the lead character in the Mary Kom biopic. The film follows the life of eminent Indian boxer Mary Kom.
Priyanka Chopra was praised for her performance. The film garnered critical acclaim along with box office success. Not to talk about winning awards such as National Film Award for Best Popular Film providing Wholesome Entertainment.
2. Apne (2007)
Anil Sharma donned the director’s cap in this boxing drama ‘Apne’ featuring the trio of Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, and Dharmendra. ‘Apne’ became a blockbuster hit. The film’s sequel is slated to release later this year.
The film was said to be loosely based on Clint Eastwood’s Academy Award-winning film ‘Million Dollar Baby’ (starring Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman, and Hilary Swank). It followed the story of a disgraced boxer who gets a chance to clear his name from a previous false accusation.
3. Mukkabaaz (2017)
Vineet Kumar wrote the script of Mukkabaaz in a very similar fashion the way Sylvester Stallone wrote Rocky. Vineet also urged to play the lead role and Anurag Kashyap agreed. With the efforts of Vineet Kumar and the whole team and the quintessential style of Anurag’s filmmaking, Mukkabaaz became a big hit.
The film chronicles the story of an aspiring boxer who comes in the bad books of the boxing federation head. On top of that, he falls for Shergill’s niece, which further aggravates their hatred.
4. Saala Khadoos (2016)
The film revolves around a former boxer turned boxing coach (played by the dependable Madhavan). He discovers raw talent in a fisherwoman and trains her to become a boxer. The film received critical acclaim for its screenplay and lead performances. Also, it is one of the best performances of Madhavan in his career.
5. Boxer (1984)
This 1984 film starring Mithun Chakraborty was one of the first Bollywood films about Boxing that came into the limelight. The film revolved around a thief turned boxer, who eventually challenges the formidable boxing champion.
Toofaan starring Farhan Akhtar and Mrunal Thakur is about to released on Amazon Prime Video. The forthcoming film will stream on Amazon Prime Video from May 21, 2021. Toofaan is the second collaboration of Farhan Akhtar with Rakyesh Om Prakash Mehra.
