Timothée Chalamet Will Play Willy Wonka In Chocolate Factory Reboot
Willy Wonka is another great character we all loved throughout the year. The crazy chocolate factory owner has been played by Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp before. Warner Bros. wanted to capitalise their movie success once again and they come up with Willy Wonka’s origin story. This time ‘Call Me By Your Name’ actor Timothée Chalamet will play Willy Wonka.
The film will be titled Wonka and Chalamet will portray the young version of Willy Wonka, the famous chocolatier. The story focuses on the creation of famous confectionary using the original written material by Roald Dhal’s popular children’s book titled ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’.
This musical film will serve as a prequel to the previous films based on Willy Wonka.
In both the previous films, we have seen already developed character of Willy Wonka with his chocolate factory. At first, Gene Wilder played the character of Willy Wonka back in 1971 in the musical movie titled ‘Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory’.
Later, Johnny Depp portrayed the character of Chocolatier Willy Wonka in the 2005 fantasy film titled ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. However, it would be the first time Wonka will be a young man who is creating his chocolate factory.
Wonka Movie Cast & Release Date
The film is still in its casting process, and Timothée Chalamet is locked to play the titular character. The film will be directed by Paul King and produced by David Heyman.
Timothée Chalamet is pretty busy with the production process of his upcoming multi-starrer black comedy titled ‘Don’t Look Up’ and Web Anderson film titled ‘The French Dispatch’. After completing his schedule with these two films, he will join the production team of Wonka.
The expected release date of Wonka is March 17, 2023. Fans are really excited to watch such a youthful take on one of the famous movie characters Willy Wonka.
