Salman Khan’s Maatrubhumi has lost the two writers whose book started it all. Defence journalists Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh announced on 5 November that their association with the film has formally ended. Their reason: the film has moved beyond the account of the 2020 Galwan Valley clash that brought them on board.
The exit comes at a sensitive moment. Maatrubhumi’s trailer has just been cleared by the censor board, the makers are still deciding on a release date, and a playful new song has left fans asking what kind of film this has become.

Why Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh Left Maatrubhumi
Aroor and Singh co-wrote India’s Most Fearless, a book series of real stories of Indian soldiers. The film, first announced as Battle of Galwan, was reportedly built on its chapter about the June 2020 clash in eastern Ladakh, where Indian and Chinese troops fought hand-to-hand at over 15,000 feet without firing a shot.
In their joint statement, the two said their association had “come to a close” because the film evolved past the Galwan account in their book. They thanked Salman Khan, director Apoorva Lakhia and the team, and did not criticise the film. Read carefully, though, it’s a clear signal that the movie no longer tells the story as they wrote it.
From Battle of Galwan to Maatrubhumi: A Timeline of Changes
| When | What changed |
|---|---|
| Announcement | Film unveiled as Battle of Galwan, based on the 2020 clash |
| March 2026 | Retitled Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace; the team said both titles had been registered from the start |
| Through 2026 | Reported reshoots and a slipping release date |
| 4 November 2026 | Salman sings the playful track Teri Sexy Beauty, his first playback in 11 years |
| Early November 2026 | A 4-minute-43-second trailer is passed by the CBFC |
| 5 November 2026 | Shiv Aroor and Rahul Singh end their association |
When the title changed, the team said Salman wanted a name that felt bigger than a single incident. The new tagline, May War Rest in Peace, also points to a film about peace and patriotism rather than one battle. Many reports linked the change to the thaw in India-China relations.

Maatrubhumi Release Date: November 20 or December 11?
There’s still no official date. According to Bollywood Hungama, the makers are eyeing either 20 November or 11 December 2026. Both have problems. 20 November lands just two weeks after Ramayana, which has locked premium screens through the Diwali run. December brings a crowded holiday calendar, including big Hollywood releases.
The trailer runs a long 4 minutes and 43 seconds, which suggests the team wants to explain the film’s new direction rather than just sell spectacle.
Maatrubhumi Cast and Crew
- Salman Khan, as an Army officer inspired by the commanding officer at Galwan (also producer, under Salman Khan Films)
- Chitrangada Singh as the female lead
- Director: Apoorva Lakhia (Shootout at Lokhandwala)
- Music: Himesh Reshammiya; the title song features Arijit Singh and Shreya Ghoshal

What Fans Are Saying
Reaction has been mixed. After Teri Sexy Beauty dropped, several fans questioned how a flirty number fits a war film about fallen soldiers. The writers’ exit has added to that worry, with many asking whether Maatrubhumi is still a Galwan film at all. Loyal Salman fans, on the other hand, say the trailer will answer everything and are pushing for a December release.
