Dexter Morgan is officially trading the snowy woods of Iron Lake for the sprawling concrete jungle of Manhattan. After the shocking survival revealed in the first season, the most prolific fictional serial killer in history is back for a second round. Fans have been desperate for news since the cliffhanger finale, and the wait is almost over.
This new chapter, overseen by showrunner Clyde Phillips, aims to reinvent the franchise while honoring the dark roots that started it all twenty years ago. From legendary new cast members like Brian Cox to a multi-killer narrative structure, here is everything you need to know about the upcoming season.
Official Premiere Date for Season 2
Paramount Plus has confirmed that Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 will premiere on Friday, Oct. 30, 2026. This date is highly significant for the franchise. It arrives almost exactly two decades after the original series first debuted on Oct. 1, 2006.
The rollout will follow the standard streaming format for the platform. New episodes will drop weekly, exclusively for those with a Paramount Plus Premium plan. Unlike the first season which served as a bridge from the New Blood era, Season 2 is being positioned as a full scale expansion of the New York City storyline.

New Additions: The Killers of New York
The biggest draw for the second season is the arrival of heavy hitting talent to play the new antagonists. Michael C. Hall will be facing off against a roster of villains that rival the Trinity Killer in complexity.
- Brian Cox as Don Framt: The Succession star joins the cast as the New York Ripper. Framt is a retired serial killer who has spent years taunting the survivors of his past crimes. He represents a unique challenge for Dexter: an elder statesman of murder who may be just as calculated as Morgan himself.
- Dan Stevens as Owen Stark: Known as the Five Borough Killer, Stevens plays a tech savvy murderer. His gimmick involves recording his kills using smart glasses, turning his crimes into a twisted form of digital voyeurism.
- Gabriel Luna as Ray Ballard: Luna portrays the Sleepy Eyed Stranger, another killer from the Leon Prater files who will cross paths with Dexter during the season.
Returning Cast and Legacy Characters
While the setting is new, several familiar faces will anchor the emotional core of the show. Michael C. Hall returns as Dexter, now navigating life in New York after recovering from his near death experience. Jack Alcott also returns as Harrison Morgan, Dexter’s son, who continues to battle his own dark tendencies while exploring a new romance with Fiona Mixon (played by Nona Parker Johnson).
Perhaps the most exciting news for long time fans is the promotion of Desmond Harrington to series regular. Harrington reprises his role as Joey Quinn. Having previously worked with Dexter in Miami, Quinn is the ultimate wild card who could potentially expose Dexter’s past to the NYPD.
Additionally, James Remar returns as Harry Morgan. Even in New York, Dexter’s father remains a haunting presence in his mind. Although David Zayas is confirmed to appear as Angel Batista, his role remains a mystery given the character’s fate in the previous season.
The New York City Plot: What to Expect
Season 2 picks up with Dexter Morgan awakening from a coma and relocating to New York City. His primary mission is to find Harrison and attempt to repair their fractured relationship. However, the discovery of Leon Prater’s files has given Dexter a new list of targets.
Instead of one primary Big Bad, this season utilizes an ensemble of killers. Dexter will have to navigate the complex hierarchy of the NYPD Homicide department, lead by Captain Mixon (Bokeem Woodbine). The dynamic is complicated by Harrison’s relationship with the Captain’s daughter, Fiona, putting the Morgans right in the crosshairs of the police.
