Apple TV+ has unveiled its latest Apple Original drama, Pluribus, a science fiction series from Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan, starring Emmy nominee Rhea Seehorn. With a global premiere set for Friday, November 7, 2025, the series drops its first two episodes simultaneously, followed by weekly releases through December 26.
Pluribus Sci-fi Series Synopsis & Premise
Pluribus is slated as a genre‑bending sci‑fi drama with a striking logline: “the most miserable person on Earth must save the world from happiness.” Gilligan himself brands it a “grounded genre drama” rather than hard sci‑fi.
A short teaser clip titled “Happiness Is Contagious” shows a woman in medical scrubs bizarrely licking donuts one by one before placing them back with a sign reading “Help yourself! ;)” a vivid metaphor for the unsettling tone of the series centering on the crisis of too much happiness.
Pluribus Series Cast & Characters
Rhea Seehorn (two‑time Emmy nominee) returns to Vince Gilligan’s universe in a new role radically different from Kim Wexler in Better Call Saul.
Gilligan created the role specifically for her, calling her character “a damaged hero” who’s trying very hard to be good despite her misery.
Series regulars Karolina Wydra and Carlos‑Manuel Vesga round out the core cast. Guests include Miriam Shor and Samba Schutte, adding diverse talent and flair.

Pluribus Series Production & Behind the Scenes
Apple TV+ pre‑ordered two seasons of Pluribus back in 2022, before filming even began, underscoring its confidence in Gilligan’s vision. Production took place from February through September 2024 in Albuquerque, New Mexico (under the working title Wycaro 339).
The series is being produced by Sony Pictures Television and executive‑produced by Vince Gilligan alongside a team of seasoned collaborators such as Gordon Smith, Alison Tatlock, Diane Mercer, Allyce Ozarski, Jeff Frost, with Jenn Carroll and Trina Siopy as co‑executive producers.
Gilligan built his reputation on crime, tension, and moral complexity. Pluribus represents his bold pivot into a surreal and existential story. As he explained in interviews, the world in the show “changes very abruptly” at the outset and becomes something dramatically strange, offering a new type of emotional and speculative journey for audiences.
Seehorn described the show as “thought‑provoking, upsetting, and so, so funny,” noting how Gilligan pushes tonal shifts to extremes, balancing darkness with sharp humor.
