The spiritual landscape of Indian entertainment is undergoing a massive transformation. Following the historic and unexpected success of the film Hanuman Ansh, Sony Entertainment Television and SonyLIV have officially entered the arena. On September 30, 2026, the network released a cryptic yet powerful teaser for a brand new series centered on the life of the mystical saint, Neem Karoli Baba.
This announcement has sent shockwaves through both the spiritual community and the television industry. With interest in the saint reaching an all time high due to global influencers and recent cinematic portrayals, this series aims to delve deeper into the stories that have defined a generation of seekers.
The Cultural Wave: From Cinema to Streaming
The decision to bring Neem Karoli Baba to the small screen is not a coincidence. It is a strategic response to the overwhelming public interest in the saint’s life. The year 2026 has become a landmark for spiritual storytelling. While domestic audiences have always been drawn to devotional content, the modern approach to these biopics, blending historical reverence with high production values, has created a new genre: mytho-fiction.
Streaming platforms like SonyLIV are now looking to capture the same audience that turned a small, two crore budget film into a global powerhouse. The upcoming show is expected to focus on the human side of the saint, his teachings on unconditional love, and the mysterious events that occurred around him.
Sony TV Announcement: The First Teaser Details
The first promo, unveiled on September 30, 2026, was designed to be atmospheric rather than informative. It did not reveal the lead actor’s face, but it leaned heavily into the iconography associated with Maharaj Ji. The visuals prominently featured his signature checkered shawl, a symbol instantly recognizable to his millions of followers at Kainchi Dham.
A haunting voiceover accompanied the visuals, stating that the miraculous tales which have captivated the nation will finally be brought to light. The teaser also included a direct reference to Lord Hanuman, establishing the deep spiritual connection that Neem Karoli Baba held with the deity. The social media announcement simply stated, “Coming soon on Sony Entertainment Television and Sony LIV.”

By its eighth week, the film had crossed the 400 crore mark globally, making it one of the most profitable Hindi films in history relative to its budget. Cast and Characters: Who Will Play Maharaj Ji?
As of October 1, 2026, Sony has not officially announced the cast for the television series. In the film Hanuman Ansh, Shobhinaw Satyaa portrayed the saint to critical acclaim, while Purnima Tiwari played the role of Ram Beti. Fans are currently debating whether the series will retain the film’s cast or opt for new faces to differentiate the TV show from the cinematic version.
Industry insiders suggest that the series may feature a larger ensemble cast to cover different phases of the saint’s life, from his early years as Lakshman Narayan Sharma to his final days in Vrindavan. The involvement of Chandan K. Anand, who had a pivotal role in the film, is also a topic of heavy speculation among the fan base.

- The Early Years: His departure from home and his transformation into a wandering monk.
- The Miracles: Documented accounts of his ability to be in two places at once or his profound insight into the lives of strangers.

Streaming and Release Date Expectations
While the “Coming Soon” tag is active, a specific premiere date has not been locked in. Given the production timelines for high quality mytho-fiction on SonyLIV, industry experts predict a release in late 2026 or early 2027. The show is expected to be a flagship property for SonyLIV, potentially featuring 20 to 30 episodes in its first season to allow for a detailed exploration of the saint’s life.
The series will air concurrently on Sony Entertainment Television for traditional viewers and stream on SonyLIV for the digital audience. This dual release strategy ensures that both rural devotees and urban youth have access to the content.
