The Batman Part II just got a whole lot more intimidating. According to an exclusive report by Deadline, Game of Thrones actor Charles Dance is in talks to join DC Studios’ The Batman Part II, the highly anticipated sequel starring Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne. If you’ve ever watched Dance command a room as the cold and calculating Tywin Lannister, you already know, this casting makes complete sense.
Who Would Charles Dance Play?
Here’s where it gets really interesting. While unconfirmed, it is believed Dance would play Charles Dent, the father of Gotham’s district attorney Harvey Dent, who will be portrayed by Sebastian Stan. That means Gotham is about to get a very powerful, very dangerous Dent family, and Dance as the patriarch fits like a glove.
The role feels like a natural extension of what Dance does best. Best known for playing Tywin Lannister on the hit HBO series Game of Thrones, he was seen as one of the most powerful and treacherous men in all of Westeros. Now, he looks to bring a similar energy to Gotham City.
It’s worth noting the road to casting Papa Dent wasn’t easy, big names like Daniel Craig and Stellan Skarsgård were said to have turned down offers before Dance entered the picture. That makes his casting feel even more significant. When Charles Dance says yes, you pay attention.

The Full Batman Part II Cast Is Shaping Up Beautifully
The Batman Part II is building one of the most compelling ensemble casts in recent DC memory. Here’s the lineup so far:
Robert Pattinson returns as Bruce Wayne / Batman, with director Matt Reeves back at the helm writing and directing the sequel. DC co-bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran are producing alongside Dylan Clark.
Sebastian Stan steps in as Harvey Dent, a character fans have been waiting to see explored properly on the big screen for years. Harvey Dent, of course, is the man who will eventually become Two-Face, one of Batman’s most tragic and iconic villains.
Scarlett Johansson is also on board. She is set to play Harvey Dent’s wife, marking her first comic-book movie role since her long run in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Black Widow.
Andy Serkis returns as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell is expected back as Oz Cobb, the Penguin, fresh off his acclaimed HBO spinoff series.
Barry Keoghan, who was introduced at the end of the first film as the Joker, also remains a figure of intense fan speculation for the sequel.
Charles Dance’s Recent Work
Don’t think Dance has been sitting still since Game of Thrones wrapped. He most recently starred as Dr. Frankenstein’s father in Guillermo del Toro’s Oscar-nominated Frankenstein, and also appeared in the Peacock series Day of the Jackal. The man has been busy, and consistently excellent.
At 78, Dance brings a gravitas and screen authority that few actors can match. Casting him as the Dent family patriarch isn’t just good, it’s inspired.

When Does The Batman Part II Release?
Mark your calendars. The Batman Part II was pushed back a full year to October 1, 2027, to give production more time to prep and film. The DC Studios pic is set to start production in the spring.
That gives Matt Reeves the runway he needs to craft a worthy follow-up to 2022’s The Batman, which was a critical and commercial triumph.
Reeves’ The Batman grossed $369.3 million at the domestic box office and $772 million worldwide, a massive result that proved audiences wanted a darker, more grounded take on the Caped Crusader. The sequel has enormous shoes to fill, and every casting announcement signals that Reeves is swinging for the fences.
A cast featuring Pattinson, Stan, Johansson, Farrell, Serkis, Keoghan, and now Dance? Gotham has never looked this stacked.
