Taapsee Pannu and Kanika Dhillon, the successful duo behind hits like Haseen Dillruba and Phir Aayi Haseen Dillruba, are joining forces once again for a new project titled Gandhari. However, this time it’s not another installment of the Haseen Dillruba franchise but an entirely new action thriller. Like their previous collaborations, Gandhari will also be released on Netflix.
On Tuesday, Netflix unveiled a motion poster for Gandhari on Instagram. In the background, Taapsee’s voice can be heard saying, “Kehte hain maa ki dua hamesha saath chalti hai. Lekin jab uski bachi par aati hai, to kaali bhi vo hi banti hai.” The cryptic message hints at the intense nature of the film, which will explore a mother’s fierce protective instincts.
Kanika Dhillon, who wrote Haseen Dillruba, is stepping into the producer’s role for Gandhari while continuing her writing duties. The action thriller promises to deliver raw intensity, as Dhillon described it as “fiery” and “emotionally charged.” In an interview with Variety, she explained, “After the immense love for Phir Aayi Haseen Dillruba, starting Gandhari with Taapsee feels like coming home creatively. The film dives deep into a mother’s fierce love. Don’t mess with a tigress’ cub—because she will destroy you! We’re thrilled to bring this powerful tale of revenge and redemption to life.”
Gandhari Is An Action Thriller Movie
Both Taapsee Pannu and Kanika Dhillon have made a name for themselves as a dynamic team in Bollywood, having previously worked together on films like Manmarziyan, Rashmi Rocket, and the upcoming Dunki. Their partnership has often produced engaging stories filled with emotion, intensity, and strong female characters.
The Haseen Dillruba franchise, which was first released in July 2021, received much praise for its gripping storyline and Taapsee’s strong performance. The second installment, Phir Aayi Haseen Dillruba, followed in August 2023, further solidifying the team’s winning formula.
Actor Sunny Kaushal, who starred in Phir Aayi Haseen Dillruba, responded to the Gandhari announcement on Instagram with a playful comment, “Kya baat hai haseenas.” Actress Sadia Khateeb also chimed in, calling the project a “bomb.”
Gandhari, Taapsee, and Kanika are set to bring audiences another powerful narrative, pushing the boundaries of storytelling. The film is expected to be a thrilling, action-packed saga that explores themes of revenge, redemption, and a mother’s love. Gandhari will be available exclusively on Netflix.
