Stephen King’s The Institute is back. Season 2 of the hit thriller premieres on 8 November 2026 on MGM+, and Indian viewers can stream it on Prime Video. King himself announced the date with a short warning: the kids are done running.
Here’s what to expect from Season 2, who’s in the cast, and how to catch up before Sunday.

What Is The Institute About?
The series follows Luke Ellis, a gifted teenager who is kidnapped and taken to a secret facility in the woods of Maine. There, children with telepathic and telekinetic powers are tested, drugged and used as weapons by the shadowy organisation that runs the place. Running parallel is Tim Jamieson, an ex-cop drifting through a small town nearby, whose path eventually collides with the Institute.

What Happens in Season 2?
Season 1 ended with the kids escaping and a shocking discovery: the Institute isn’t the only one. Similar facilities exist all over the world. Season 2 picks up from there. In King’s words, the escapees are now free but hunted, and new dangers wait for them.
Importantly, Season 2 goes beyond the book. The novel’s story was largely covered in Season 1, so the writers are building an original storyline, which means even King fans won’t know what’s coming.
The Institute Season 2 Cast
- Joe Freeman as Luke Ellis
- Ben Barnes as Tim Jamieson
- Mary-Louise Parker as Ms. Sigsby, the Institute’s chilling head
- Simone Miller and Fionn Laird as fellow young escapees
- Alfie Allen (Game of Thrones) joins the cast for Season 2

Why It’s Worth Watching
The Institute gave MGM+ its best-ever premiere when Season 1 launched in July 2025, and it was renewed even before its finale aired. It sits in the same space as Stranger Things: kids with powers, sinister adults and a creeping conspiracy, but with a darker, more grown-up edge.

Need to catch up? Season 1 is eight episodes, so there’s time to binge it before Sunday. For everything else new this Diwali week, see our OTT releases list.
