Netflix scored a major hit on 10 September 2026 with the release of Crew Girl, a gripping sports drama that blends high stakes prep school politics with the physical intensity of rowing. The series follows Teagan Tao, a displaced elite athlete who finds herself steering a chaotic boys varsity eight boat after a family scandal upends her life.
What makes the show resonate is its authentic casting. The production team ensured the actors looked and moved like real athletes. This guide provides a comprehensive look at the stars behind your favorite characters, their rowing positions, and what they bring to this competitive world.
The Heart of the Boat: Meet the Main Leads
At the center of the story is the Tao family and the intense rivalry within the rowing program. These primary actors carry the emotional weight of the series.
Miku Martineau as Teagan Tao
Teagan is the fierce protagonist who transitions from a single sculler in California to a coxswain on the East Coast. Martineau captures the grit of a girl entering a boys club with precision. Before this, Teagan’s life was defined by her father’s wealth, but his status as a fugitive forces her to reinvent herself.
Kyle Clark as Cam Dillinger
Cam serves as a primary point of attraction and friction for Teagan. As a key member of the rowing team, his relationship with the new coxswain is one of the most talked about arcs of the first season. Clark brings a brooding intensity to the role that has made him a fan favorite.
Samuel Braun as Josh Regis
Josh is a vital member of the varsity eight and provides a bridge between the existing team culture and Teagan’s new leadership style. His character often deals with the pressures of legacy and performance.
Jessica Paré as Ella Emerson Tao
Playing Teagan’s mother, Paré portrays a woman forced to return to her childhood home after her husband’s crimes are revealed. Her performance anchors the family drama occurring outside the boathouse.
The Varsity Eight: The Boys of the Crew
A rowing drama is only as good as its crew. The following actors portray the members of the varsity eight, the team Teagan must unite to win.
| Actor | Character |
|---|---|
| Connor Paton | Ryder Regis |
| Riley Davis | Noah Bainbridge |
| Connor Wong | Perry Chou |
| Vincent Muller | Damon Quaid |
| Jarrett Carlington | Chris Padmore |
| Jude Wilson | Baloo Garner |
These actors underwent rigorous training to ensure the rowing sequences were technically accurate. Under the guidance of Olympic gold medalist Terry Paul, the cast learned the rhythm and synchronization required for an elite Eight. Jarrett Carlington’s character, nicknamed Crab Catcher, provides both comic relief and a realistic look at the technical struggles new rowers face.

The Families and Mentors: Supporting Cast
The world of Crew Girl extends beyond the lake. The supporting cast includes the coaches who push the athletes and the parents whose pasts haunt the present.
Thomas Cadrot as Coach Matt Hayden
Coach Hayden is the tough but fair leader of the rowing program. Cadrot portrays a mentor who is initially skeptical of having a girl lead the boys varsity boat but eventually recognizes Teagan’s unique tactical mind.
Olga Petsa as Juliet Morny
Juliet is a key figure in the prep school social scene. Her interactions with Teagan highlight the social hurdles Teagan faces as the new girl with a tarnished family name.
Niall Matter as Richard Regis
Richard represents the elite prep school establishment. His presence in the series often complicates the lives of Josh and Ryder Regis, adding layers of parental expectation to the athletic pressure.
Behind the Scenes: Training and Filming
To achieve the stunning visuals seen in the eight episodes released on 10 September 2026, the production utilized unique filming locations and technology. The series was filmed primarily on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
Key locations included:
- Elk and Beaver Lake Regional Park: The site of the intense practice sessions.
- Hatley Castle: Used as the exterior for the prestigious prep school.
- The Gorge Waterway: The backdrop for several major racing sequences.
To capture the speed of the boats, the crew used a specialized floating barge camera system. This allowed the audience to feel the spray of the water and the strain of the rowers in a way traditional filming cannot match.
Guest Stars and Season 2 News
One of the biggest surprises of Season 1 was the special appearance by Kesha, who played herself in a guest spot. Other notable guest appearances include Byron Lawson as David Tao, the fugitive father, and Sara Canning as Imogen.
For fans wondering about the future, the news is positive. In September 2026, shortly after the series debut, Netflix officially renewed Crew Girl for a second season. The renewal comes after the show dominated the top ten charts in both Canada and the United States. Expect the main cast, including Miku Martineau and Kyle Clark, to return as the team faces new rivalries from schools like Westvale.
