Netflix premiered Crew Girl on September 10, 2026, and the eight episode first season has already solidified itself as a breakout hit. While the show follows Teagan Tao (Miku Martineau) as she navigates the high stakes world of rowing at Easton Prep, the finale, titled O Coxswain, My Coxswain, left viewers with more questions than answers. Between a surprise arrest, a medical crisis, and a romantic cliffhanger, there is a lot to unpack before the confirmed second season arrives.
The Haverford Cup: A Bitter Victory
The central tension of the finale revolves around the prestigious Haverford Cup. For the Easton Prep boys’ varsity Eight, this was the culmination of a chaotic season. Teagan, who stepped in as a coxswain despite having no prior experience in the role, successfully guided the team through internal strife and technical failures.
During the race, the team managed to clinch a podium finish, but the victory felt hollow for many characters. The physical toll on the rowers and the emotional weight of their secrets overshadowed the trophy. The victory served as a backdrop for the much larger personal dramas unfolding on the docks.
The Love Triangle: Team Cam vs. Team Josh
The most debated aspect of the Crew Girl ending is Teagan’s romantic future. Throughout the season, Teagan was torn between the hardworking underdog, Cam Dillinger (Kyle Clark), and the complex golden boy, Josh Regis (Samuel Braun).
In the final moments, Josh approaches Teagan after his heart surgery. He makes it clear that he needs to work on himself before he can be the partner she deserves, but he leaves the door wide open. A significant, loaded moment of eye contact between the two suggests that their spark is far from extinguished. Sam Braun later confirmed in interviews that this look was intentionally added to show that their story is not over.
However, just as Josh exits the frame, Cam finds Teagan at the boathouse. The two share a passionate kiss before the screen cuts away. While this seems like a win for Team Cam, the situation is messy. Cam is now the stroke seat, a position he took from Josh, and he remains unaware of Teagan’s secret romantic history with Josh. If Season 2 follows the usual drama tropes, this kiss is likely the start of a new conflict rather than a final resolution.
| Character | Relationship Status | Key Obstacle in Season 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Cam Dillinger | Kissed Teagan in finale | Discovery of Teagan and Josh’s hookup |
| Josh Regis | Post-surgery recovery | Inability to row; emotional vulnerability |
| Teagan Tao | Undecided | Managing the new girls’ crew team rivalry |
Josh Regis and the Medical Bombshell
One of the most intense subplots involved Josh’s health. After experiencing heart pain and crashing his car, Josh finally came clean about his diagnosis: hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. This condition makes competitive rowing extremely dangerous.
Josh admits that his fear of a cardiac event was so great that he actually sabotaged the crew by breaking an oar earlier in the season. By the end of Episode 8, Josh has stepped down from the stroke seat and is focusing on his recovery. His grandfather remains dismissive, but his father, Richard Regis, has finally stepped up to support him. The question for Season 2 is whether Josh will ever be able to return to the water or if he will have to find a new identity outside of being the star athlete.

David Tao’s Arrest and the USB Mystery
Teagan’s father, David Tao, has been a fugitive since the series pilot when the FBI raided their California home. In the finale, he makes a risky return to see Teagan compete. He brings a secret USB drive, claiming it contains the key to financially securing Teagan and her mother Ella’s future.
Teagan refuses the money, showing her growth and desire to distance herself from her father’s crimes. However, David is spotted and arrested by the FBI right after their emotional goodbye. The contents of the USB drive remain the biggest mystery of the show. Many fans speculate that the data on the drive might be linked to the anonymous donor who funded the new girls’ rowing team, or perhaps evidence that could clear Ella’s name if she is ever implicated in David’s financial schemes.
The Girls’ Rowing Team and Season 2 Setup
The finale concludes with the announcement that Easton Prep will finally launch a girls’ rowing program. While this is what Teagan has wanted since she arrived, it introduces a major new antagonist: Britney Garner. Britney, who is Josh’s ex-girlfriend, is set to be Teagan’s primary rival on the new team.
This creates a fascinating dilemma for Teagan. Will she continue to lead the boys’ team as their coxswain, or will she return to her roots as a single scull rower on the girls’ team? With the show already renewed for a second season, the focus will likely shift to this new team dynamic and the fallout of Teagan’s romantic choices.
