What Is Meesaya Murukku 2 About?
It continues Adhi’s semi-autobiographical story from the 2017 original, which was based on his early life and the “win or lose, twirl your moustache” advice his father gave him. The sequel follows his journey of building his band, Hip Hop Tamizha, from scratch: an underdog music story about friendship, family pressure and chasing a dream.
Like the first film, it leans on catchy songs, youthful energy and gaana-style music, and gives screen time to a fresh group of young actors and YouTube personalities.

Meesaya Murukku 2 Box Office: A Quiet Hit
The film arrived without much hype but did well. It opened on more than 1,500 screens, earned around ₹15 crore net in its opening weekend, and finished with about ₹35.66 crore net in India and close to ₹49 crore worldwide, per Koimoi. On a reported budget of around ₹20 crore, that makes it a clear success, especially in Tamil Nadu.
Meesaya Murukku 2 Review: What Critics Said
- The Times of India gave it 3/5, saying it knows exactly what young viewers want and delivers a fun theatrical experience.
- Filmibeat rated it 3.5/5, praising the songs, performances and energetic second half.
- The New Indian Express (2.5/5) and India Today (2/5) were tougher, pointing to flat writing, a late conflict and too many speeches.
- The Hindu felt the underdog tale struggles to find its rhythm.
Audiences were kinder than critics, and word of mouth among younger viewers drove its theatrical run.
